down they came ... three pretty large trees from the left corner of the backyard. we had moved the black chain link fence (on the left side of the photo) it was in the corner area, making a nice dog house section for our first three years here ... but we relocated the actual dog house (they moved up in the world - keeping up with the Ruffian's, they are!) we took apart a most ridiculous raised area that had absolutely no use in the yard (you can see it to the right of my dad holding the rope in the above pix) and used the wall against the back fence to keep the eventual fill, and gravel or clay in the batting cage. and then began the arduous task of clearing the area. we will also need to raise the left side fence up to where the land will be level.
why you ask are we doing this? well, in that spot where the trees are being cut, and pulled down, we will be leveling the yard. fill, loom, grass ... for ....
a batting cage!!
yep, a real, true to form Juggs pitching machine within a net and big metal posts holding it up there.
cam is beside himself with glee, as is sean, of course. this is our summer project at the house ('cause there has to be a project to make it a summer!)
my dad, my uncle, my brother, and my husband were the hard workers. why is it that men love chainsaws? my hubby was the anti-chainsaw man, but my uncle and bro LOVED it! ah, testosterone, right? ... i took photos and then cleaned up the leaves and branches from the downed trees. we still have a little bit to do (ten bags of yard refuse at the curb already!) and then we're ready for the fill .... i am excited for the end result, and it can't happen fast enough for me!
in other news .... the pup. {yes, nat, i have not forgotten you!} still processing, and thoroughly weighing all options. my dad thinks we're nuts (that is one big dog, karin!) my mom is so excited, but also weary of the size of the pooch. the names still flowing, and the communication with the breeder is ongoing. all research points in the direction that this is *exactly* the kind of dog for this family .... it's a commitment, and a journey.
sigh.
i think that's about it for tonight - just noticed that i have been blogging every day since july 1 - kinda fun, and also enjoying getting here to blather on ... looking forward to the weekend. only a few things planned, so perhaps a nice mellow couple of days.
loving the summer so far. loving it.
off to read ... perhaps get some more names together. :O)

Oh, what a cool project! We've fenced the side yard, and are mulling over what to do with it. I wanted all grass (well, mostly grass with a landscaped area in the front) but everyone and his brother are trying to discourage that as too much of a water requirement, since, I guess, water's expensive here.
I'm giggling that you're considering names when you say you aren't certain - so, if you find the perfect name, it's a yes, and if not, then it won't happen?
Speaking of dogs, dh's coworker found the phone number of the folks with the GP pups. I didn't call, but I want to, though there's a good chance the li'l pup I wanted will be gone. And I only wanted her because she gave me "licky lick kissies". ;)
What a COOL project!
Now dear, do not come back here unless you have puppy pics ;-)
